Why would Smithfield even imagine doing this? Just what we need. Thousands more Americans losing jobs to China.

I very, very much doubt if many American jobs will be sent to China.

China bought this to secure a high quality source of pork back to China. They are going to want to import it to China from the USA. This is an area that the USA would have a major competitive advantage over China.

Why would China buy a USA company and shift hog raising/slaughtering/processing jobs back to China?

I am also going to guess that well over 1/2 of Smithfield's products will still be sold in the USA.

If you want to look at an innovative agricultural company, look at Seaboard Inc. (SEB). They are one of the largest hog manufacturers in the USA. Very well run company.
