Recommend films or books about hard times.

Grapes of Wrath
The Joyless Street (Greta Garbo - German/Austrian hyperinflation)
Rollover - (Jane Fonda/Kris Kristoferson - 1970s oil/currency crisis)

There was a series that HBO put out several years ago called Carnivale that was set in the dustbowl midwest of the 1930s. It had some sexual content/nudity and a somewhat anti-religious theme, but I thought it gave pretty accurate portrail of the hardships of that time.

Then there is always the classic, Its a Wonderful Life with Jimmy Stewart.

Rollover is worth renting if you can find it. it takes place in the late 70s early 80s as the Arabs were accumulating dollars and what was shocking then was that they might not have confidence in the dollar and instead were buying gold.

Nuclear War Survival Skills, by Cresson H. Kearny, 1987.

Feasting Free on Wild Edibles, by Bradford Angier, 1975. You need to learn what plants you can eat.

Venomous Animals & Poisonous Plants, by Steven Foster/Roger Caras, 1994. You need to learn what plants to not eat and how their toxins can be used for good purposes. It is also good to learn the wide scope of poisonous snakes. Rattlesnake is yummy! ;)

Mother Earth News, http://www.MotherEarthNews.com. Basic info. for setting up a home on small acreages.

Mary's Recipes, forgot the author and date. One of the best recipe books for home wine making.

Copper Moonshine Stills, http://www.coppermoonshinestills.com/id28.html. Knowing how to make your own ethanol is important for filling you gas tank and filling your belly! Good for fun & profit. Ethanol is one of the safest disinfectants.

The Patriot, movie with Mel Gibson. "Dog is a good meal!" (and it is, almost as good as horse.) Gotta get you mindset right.

Just started a new book "The Great Depression: A Diary" by Benjamin Roth. It's a good read. The guy is publishing his fathers diary entries which are an account of the depression. It's interesting to read it from the perspective of someone who doesn't know how it will all play out and is living it day by day.
