VERNAL, Utah - A Utah man has been charged with disorderly conduct for allegedly trying to pay a disputed doctor's bill in pennies, the Deseret News reported Friday.

Police said 38-year-old Jason West went to a clinic in Vernal, Utah, on May 27 to dispute an outstanding bill for $25.

"After asking if they accepted cash, West dumped 2,500 pennies onto the counter and demanded that they count it," Vernal Assistant Police Chief Keith Campbell said. "The pennies were strewn about the counter and the floor."

West left the office as employees told him they were calling the police.

Officers eventually found West and cited him for disorderly conduct, an infraction with a potential fine of $140.

Not a very classy way of going about it. If he wrapped them it would be a different story.

Exactly, He was cited for being a jerk, not for paying in pennies

It could not happen in Canada from http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/story/2010/05/04/f-penny-one-cent-coin.html
In Canada, the Currency Act says: "A payment in coins … is a legal tender for no more than … twenty-five cents if the denomination is one cent." No one is legally obligated to accept more than 25 pennies at a time.

Yeah if he wanted to get rid of some zincers he could have laid a $25.00 brick on the counter and nothing would have been said. Sounds like he deserved what he got.

Yeah, yeah, the guy was a total dick. What a jerk. Shoulda thrown his ass in jail.

On the other hand, IF a RealCent'er had been there, he would have thanked this guy for cracking the rolls and unrolling the pennies for him AND would have asked if they could make out some sort of agreement were another $200 could be delivered on a weekly basis! :P

Only $200? Gotta make it at least $500.
