Gold and diamond-decorated desert cars are rare. With only three of them in existence, it is no wonder they've been attracting a lot of attention at the International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition currently being held in the United Arab Emirates' capital, Abu Dhabi. The desert safari cars, also known as dune buggies, have a price tag of more than half a million US dollars. They are being showcased to the public for the first time at the exhibition. The cars are the brainchild of a group of UAE businessmen with a passion for cars and driving in the desert. They decided to custom-order a few buggy cars fitted with the most luxurious materials, gold and diamonds, for those seeking the ultimate display of wealth. Almost everything yellow in the Beast buggy is gold-plated. This includes parts of the engine, suspension, wheel covers and parts of the exterior coating and interior furnishings. One of the businessmen, Ali Hussein Murad, says he and his friends have created a unique product. Murad also explained that for men, having a very expensive customised car was similar to women buying the latest designer handbag and shoes

It probably costs at least a half million in annual membership dues at the IHEC. These dudes will drop 20 times that much on a horse.

Well... we'll see what they can sell it for when they run out of oil. Talk about money well spent. What do you figure the first year depreciation is on that thing? Cost to insure?
