If you go to this link you can search your bank by name or you can look by city or state as well: http://banktracker.investigativereporti ... org/banks/

It is really interesting to see the troubled asset ratio graph!

You are able to view information on the lastest number for the banks:
Assets
Deposits
Loans
Loan loss provision
Profit
Capital
Reserves
Loans 90 days or more past due
Non-accruing loans
Other real estate owned
Capital plus reserves
Total troubled assets

Well that's interesting. By that measure, every bank in my area but one is above the national average in troubled loans, most 2x or more. Only one, a modest local bank HQ'd here, is below the national average. Don't know if these are local numbers or overall corporate numbers.

My old bank, a bigger multi-state bank, where I still have a few personal accounts, is way above the national average at 24%. My new bank, a local bank with only 6 branches, where I have all my business stuff and will probably move my personal stuff, is way below the national average at 5.3%. At their worst, it was 6.9%.

bank analysis is not as simple as looking at a few metrics because the quality of their loan portfolios differ substantially. if i were going to look at a single metric, i would look at tangible book value.

YIKES! Looks like I might want to find a new bank. 4x national average. I'm not surprised, the bank primarily focused on commercial real estate lending through the boom. Commercial defaults / delinquencies have been lagging behind residential, but that is changing quickly. Commercial real estate, particularly retail, is DEAD around here. Drive down the major corridor between Wilmington and Newark and you'll see a dozen shopping centers with 1/2 to 3/4 vacancies.
