While I have a couple of large shelves [2x4x8] of food,
Cans, boxes, coffee etc, that we regularly rotate thru,
Recently we have been rotating some long term storage items into our menu.
Here are a few observations that I've made.

Dehydrated tomato powder is really good,
It’s one of those things with a long shelf life, so I didn't have to use for years yet. I just wanted to check it out.
We put in with dried beans along with other seasonings, tasted great. made pizza sauce, and chili.
My wife asked why we weren't using it all along. It is now a staple in her cupboard.

Powdered beef and chicken bouillon in large cans is cheaper than the small grocery store bottles.
It stores well, and adds tons of flavor. We’ll be buying more of that.

Mountain House dinners are amazing, too expensive, but delicious.
We like all 5 varieties that we tried.
Chili mac was my favorite.
But I haven't been able to make myself try their eggs yet.
Has anybody here tried them?

I keep some cans and jars of food in my deep freeze to extend their expiration date...
It’s been 2 years and everything I’ve pulled out is still good.
I have some mayonnaise packets in there that I’m going to have to try soon.
I’ve had canola oil and peanut butter come out good after those 2 years.
A good way for medium term storage of fats.

We’ve also been eating meats that I pressure canned.
Chicken, beef, green chili etc.
They don't taste quite like the original recipe,
after they go thru the canning process, but are still good.

Also noticed that we need to store more coffee.
Man that stuff goes fast if you don't pay attention to your stores

We’ve been thinking about mixing regular milk and powdered milk 50-50.
So if it's ever just powdered milk, it won't come as a huge shock to our taste buds.
We can ignore reality but we can’t ignore the consequences of ignoring reality.

Check the mayo, I think it seperates when frozen.

Great post, Justoneguy. I'm two-thirds of the way through getting a ton of shelving set up in my homestead. I'll post photos of some of the things I'm doing to make rotation easier. One thing I've been doing since day one is labeling and dating everything that doesn't already have a prep date or best-by date on it.

Never freze mayo. Gotta keep experimenting still
the frozen bacon fat is doing fine so far.

Once it is thawed, can't it just be stirred back together? I have never frozen any so don't have a clue what it looks like when thawed out.
