Taste test - Cheese - "little blue can"

Postby Z00 » Fri Jan 17, 2014 4:25 am

I recently purchased both the Kraft and Bega brands of the "little blue can" of cheddar cheese.
My purpose was to evaluate for bulk storage.

The Kraft brand is hard to find in the USA. It is popular in the mid east and India. As such it is now produced in Bahrain.

The Bega brand is a product of the old family cheese maker in Bega, Australia.

MY personal opinion:
Taste:
The Bega brand has a bit more of a cheddar "bite" to it.
However both would be considered a "mild" cheddar.

Size:
They are both the identical size. 7.05 oz. (200g)

Price: The best prices I found.
Kraft - 3.75 (20+ cans 3.35) http://www.hashems.com/store/dairy/kraft-cheddar-cheese
Bega - 3.95 (sale price - 3.29) (18+ - 2.99) http://beprepared.com/bega-canned-proce ... 05-oz.html

In both cases add shipping.

Best price is a case of 36 of the Bega from a seller on Amazon.
Works out to 2.86 a can/shipped. http://www.amazon.com/One-Case-of-Bega- ... ga+cheddar

Then I tracked down this sellers own site and found them selling a case of 36 with a manufacturing date of 10/11/11 for 88.00/shipped which works out to less than 2.45 a can/shipped http://grfoodsinc.com/storable.html

Cheese can be stored forever. The fact that it is canned will stop the mold on the outside.

I bought a case.

If you know of any better deals, let me know.

Thanks for a heads up on this. I been looking at Bega for a while. Never tried it but I will take your word for it. Bought a case to try out. This is by far the cheapest I have seen it in my research.

And G & R Foods sent out a tracking number this morning. Talk about service.
