I can't see going through the "fun times" ahead sober, so..... I figured now was a good time to dust off an old hobby, homebrewing!

Details? Never tried it - don't drink much, but usually a few when I'm traveling for work or after a race at the track.

Really short answer:
Malt extract + water + hops, boil about an hour.
Cool quickly and syphon into fermenter, a 5 gallon water bottle.
Add yeast, install water lock "blow off" vent.
Allow to ferment out - 3-4 weeks.
Bottle, allow to condition in the bottle 1 week +
Enjoy!
I've brewed from malted grain in the past, but it's an all day process. Brewing from extract only takes about 3 hours.

looks like a nice porter or stout there jack! extract is the way to go imo. do you buy supplies from a local store or mail order? midwestsupplies.com has a good selection of products.

Been brewing for 20 years and you just can't beat fresh beer. Started growing my own hops 2 years ago. I like to use the extract with some specialty grains steeped in for more body and better head retention. Another brew supply place I like is Beer, Beer and more Beer as they have free shipping.

Local shops, there are two in my area. I'll be making a "clone" of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale as my next batch, all extract.

I borrowed that piece from my meth lab......
Heeheee... Yeah, I use the small ones too. That big one is good when you've got a really aggressive fermentation, it lets all the gunk out without loosing the seal.

I need to be your buddy, I can't get enough HOPS! Funny thing is, my run of the mill beer is Coors Light
I really like the better ales and lagers, but I'd be fat as a hog if I drank them regularly. About 12 years ago I switch from Yuengling (mostly Porter) to C.L. (and cut out the everyday lunch at Arbys' with curly fries). Within 3-4 months I dropped 24lbs and 4 inches on my waist. It's not that I'm vain, hell, I'd love to be FAT, but I've got a reconstructed knee that doesn't appreciated the extra load....
So I've got to limit my enjoyment of the better stuff...
