Went to buy a 91/30 Mosin Nagant today...

Went to buy a 91/30 Mosin Nagant today.....and got delayed 7 days by NICS. aint that a crapper. Not that I really needed it anytime soon, but I was excited to strip it down, and clean off the cosmoline, and reassemble it. I actually enjoy doing that type of stuff. It was going to be a weekend project, before I get busy again next week. I have had a 3 day delay before, but never a 7 day delay....I have a CCW, and have bought over a dozen firearms new, this is only the second time I have been delayed, bought still a pain in the ass. I dont know about anyone else, but I like the 91/30's they are fun to collect, and fun to shoot, and you can't beat the cases of ammo of 400 rounds for around $100.00

Bought my first one a week ago. Paid $129 locally and came with bayonet, and other accessories. What a fun rifle to shoot! Has a little kick to it, less than a 30.06 but more than a 30/30. The only thing I didn't enjoy was cleaning all the cosmoline off. The first time I fired it I had a jam after about 15--20 rounds. I learned that if you don't clean it really well the heat after several rounds causes the built up old cosmoline to melt and causes the bolt to stick and prevent cartridge ejection.

A friend I was with said that was fairly common until you clean it really well and run a hundred or so rounds through it. Has anyone experienced this?

Its hard to describe, but it was a really fun rifle to shoot. At less than $150 it's pretty hard to beat. Looking forward to getting a carbine model next... Cheers!

I got the m44 mosin carbine. Awsome fun, and a HUGE fireball out the end. Local shop has the long version for 159 I had my eye on. Mosins rock!

Did you purchase your carbine locally or mail order? I've been looking for one in my area (Birmingham) but haven't succeeded. I don't really like the idea of purchasing used guns without physically inspecting first. I bet it sounds like a cannon!

My first Mosine was a carbine. Got it for $65.00 in 2002 while on a canoe trip. I stopped at a pawn shop in that small town, and they had some great deals on rifles. Back then, they didnt even do a background check. Paid cash and walked out with it. I sold it in 2007 for $125.00, I still miss it.

Definatly a head turner when it goes off at the range. Big deep BOOOOM.

I bought it from my mother in laws brother for 50.00. He said he cleaned the cosmoline off it and put maybe 100 rnds through it. I bought it as a coyote rifle cause we can't use rifles like that for deer here. Funny thing is I could legally use it for squirrels. Stupid laws.....

I like the folding bayonet on the carbine, but if I got the longer version, I would definatly want it scoped with a straight bolt.
