'I need help -- I can't do this anymore': Stranded drivers tell their stories
http://www.cnn.com/2014/01/29/us/winter ... vignettes/

****In a few months all this will be a distant memory. The fog will set in and people will go back to being complacent.****

I can't help but wonder how many people had any type of emergency supplies in their car i.e. a bug out bag? How many people are living day to day, with no extra anything, anywhere?

What will happen not "if" but "when" an event comes along that is not just a few day emergency but one that lasts weeks or months?

Everyone knows that the U.S. electricity grid is vulnerable to both hacking and physical attacks. But did you know over a four month span last year, squirrels caused at least 50 power outages across the country. http://theweek.com/article/index/255510 ... power-grid

Rumor has it that the NSA has linked these extremists as part of another home grown terrorist group that are thought to be based in the south eastern United States!

It was/is a mess. I myself dont have anything in my car that would be considered survival supplies. Being in a urban environment gives us all a false sense of security. They were able to go to a store and find shelter. If this would have been on a larger scale and lasted for several days, the stories would be worse. Looting, breaking into businesses, homes, cars, etc.

By summertime this will just be a story to tell their friends. Most won't learn anything from this.

2" - 3" of snow and the highways look like something straight out of the Walking Dead :?

I'm in NY, 20 minutes from Canada - you just get used to it. From October til April, anything goes in terms of weather, so like most things, experience (and snow tires, sand, salt, etc...) matters!

Looks like a wonderful day. No wind, no drifting snow, complete visability. If we had one of those problems, we might have to slow down to 55.

I put the nose of my car in a snowbank yesterday, but it might have had something to do with downshifting and stomping on the gas through a corner. :shh:

The roads are pretty slick right now, even for northern standards. We got a really wet snow on top of the frozen ground, and it almost instantly turned to ice. Some light snow on top of that made the perfect conditions for people to start playing bumper cars.
