Blah bla BLAH Berkey Blah blah Gravity BLAH

After a year of comparisons, I purchased a Doulton Aquacera LP5 Gravity feed system this week. It should be here Friday. Does anyone have experience with the Aquacera LP5, or better yet, Berkey vs. Aquacera? We have been buying/using gallon jug water from wally world for the past two tears, and have finally decided to move up to a gravity system.

The Aquacera LP5 system is 1/4 to 1/3 the cost of a Berkey, and uses the SAME filters. Biggest difference is housing composition, and name. I got the Aquacera LP5 plus enough filters for my family for four years of non emergency use for $157.00. Cost per gallon of water is $0.038 per gallon.

I plan to upgrade to the Carbon filters for SHTF situations, when I have to directly siphon off of the muddy pond behind the house.

They DO NOT use the same filters. The Berkeys sold in the US are usually marketed with the black purifier candles. The UK models are marketed with the white ceramic filters.

Keep in mind, there is a BIG difference between a "filter" and a "purifier" Make sure you are comparing the cost with the ceramic "filter" candles in both units.
I use the Berkey with both the purifier candles and the add-on arsenic/flouride units.
I see no sense in just filtering in a SHTF situation where I may be using water from a contaminated source.
In any case you can always build your own system with 2 5 gallon buckets and just buy the filter or purifier candles. Plenty of videos on youtube showing how simple it is.
