Something to think about!

At some point you are going to be overwhelmed with all the so called "Doom Porn" you have been reading. You have probably worried yourself sick. You see others, maybe your family or friends ignoring the world around them. This makes you both sad and angry. You can't help but wonder why more people seem to just not care or choose to live a life of denial?
Maybe you have some extra food, some containers of water and something to protect yourself with. Beyond that what else should you do?
Well, if you are in debt then you are beholding to either someone else or some financial institution that in the end does not give a rats butt about you or your family. If you don't own it outright it can be taken from you easily.
If "bugging out" when the SHTF is your plan then you need to ask yourself how you plan on supporting yourself living like a nomad? If you think your bug out location is safe I hope you have a moat with piranhas! Within 48 to 72 hours of any long term crisis you will find desperate people looking for food, water and supplies. They will find you no matter how far you run!
At some point you have to realize that not being in control, while uncomfortable, is just the reality. Do what you can and let the rest take care of itself. Be flexible and roll with the tide if you have too. Pick your battles carefully!

I think it's fair to keep a week or two worth of prep food/water around, and protection. I don't stock tons of ammo, and I just gave a few guns away to my Mom and her Husband, they live in the country, I'm in the city and can't use them anyways. I think the trick is to just have a meetup place for family or friends (those who can make it), strength will be in numbers. Still, in some countries people's daily lives are a SHTF scenario.

I just happen to enjoy things like shooting guns, gardening, bartering, and such. As many of you know, I love to make maple syrup. We also have chickens and bees. It's all stuff we enjoy doing, and it all happens to be great skills to have in many a SHTF scenario. I'm not stockpiling goods. I would like to get some solar power installed though. All the stuff I am doing is paying for itself. So would the solar. Well, the guns are not paying for themselves haha, and they are expensive to shoot. But I have always liked shooting. So I guess that is the costly hobby. Not gonna get all bent out of shape prepping. Maybe I'll regret it some day. But maybe preppers will regret all the prepping some day too. For now, I just like these hobbies that keep us active, keep us away from the TV, save us money, and help us learn to be more self sufficient. No matter what the future brings, I don't think we will regret that.

I'm like minded to the above poster. I kinda/sorta live with my food. Not only are animals great companions but pretty fair protein as well. Nothing beats picking weeds in a row of carrots for stress relief and at the end of the row you look back and feel a sense of accomplishment.

Some of you don't see the reality of inflation. Investing in foodstuffs makes economic sense. You watch the prices of metals go up and down. Look at the reality of foodstuffs pricing. Buying now in bulk, ahead of the inevitable increases in prices, just makes sense.

The money tied up by buying food on sale and in bulk is making a way better return than if it was in the bank, also you dont have to worry about losing your money because of a bail in!

Over the last year or so, I have listened to some of my friends/acquaintances discuss their strategy if things come tumbling down. Bugging out is a popular concept to them but nearly all of them couldn't pour piss out of a boot. Bugging out means traveling to someone else's house to take advantage of their prepping friend's readiness. I am thinking there will be some shocked and disappointed folks out there.

Not only are your food stocks cheaper today than they will be next year,
If/When they close the banks here You'll already have yours.
