TRADE GOODS: Make your own "Nips"

After reading a few articles and posts on various preparedness sites, I was struck by the number of them that put liquor high on the tradeable items list.
After thinking about it for a while, I decided they may be right. Mankind has used alcohol as a trade item for centuries.
I mulled over the idea of getting a stock of the little 50ml bottles that the airlines use. The price is a definite turnoff for the actuaL content.
Lately I have looked at the price of little small bottles. 50ml = 1.67oz. you can buy 2oz glass bottles with screw caps for about 50 cents/ea shipped. Buy liters of the common favorite hooch and take a baster and go to work. Print little labels on your printer or get some rubber stamps. all that needs to be on them is "Jack Daniels" "Johnny Walker" "Seagrams 7" etc.

.....and then the ATF hunts you down and throws you in prison.
You are better off brewing your own and selling it in mason jars.
I'd buy it that way.

I hardly think the ATF will be hunting down anything if it gets to the point where you have to be "trading" for stuff to survive.

How involved is it to make moonshine or vodka in a SHTF situation and what would you need to acquire now to be able to do so? I think that there would be a lot more profit in producing rather than just repacking.

I don't know.
How was "bathtub gin" made during prohibition?
Anyway, my repackaged stuff would demand a premium for the taste.

Could just use empty milk jugs. Didn't everybody watch Dukes of Hazzard?

I think I'm just going to start hoarding two-buck-chuck as it stores very well and is 100% legit. While 50mL bottles are a nice idea, people are going to need a lot more than a 50mL bottle to drown their sorrows. Moreover, buying more than one bottle may be out of their price range. You can also look into 375mL bottles.
I do agree with Thogey, I wouldn't mess with altering alcohol to sell/resell/trade. The gov't does not take this lightly. To give you an example, here in CA, if I buy a case of beer to resell in my establishment and one of the labels gets torn off, I am not allowed to sell said beer. Also, I am only allowed to buy alcohol from my distributor. So, if Costco is having a .99 cent sale of fifths of crown royal, I can not go stock up and use them in my establishment. Absurd, I know.

I would never underestimate the gov't. Just my worthless .02 cents.

A couple of those Mr. Boston or other cheap vodkas can be had for a couple of bucks per half pint. I notice that the cheap stuff is now bottled in palstic. Will it last as long in plastic as opposed to glass? When the SHTF, alcohol ( and tobacco) will be more in demand than PM I can assure you.
Here's another FREE trade good you can stock up on ------condoms. They can be had for free at your local health dept. $@! will always be in demand, after filling up the stomach.

I guess you could say that since they are free, they were paid for with tax monies....so get get the items you've already paid for them!

If it gets that bad, the local government officials will be looking for sources of income as well, just like in third world countries. Better have something to use for bribes.

Just curious, why would you store sealed wine in vac bags? I would think as long as it's laying down, at an angle or upside down would be just fine.
