Does anyone...

.....here hoard bottles of wine? Thinking the other day of how much people pay for alcohol and was wondering if this would be a good idea. Now, I know many people collect wine, but I'm talking about two-buck-chuck here. If SHTF many people won't be able to buy their wine of preference, and having some two-buck-chuck on hand may go a long way. What's great about alcohol is that people drink when times are good and continue drinking when times are bad. Thoughts?

While, a lot of people, think booze is a great barter item,
I, personally wouldn't give/trade it to people when times are hard.
it can give them "liquid courage" and maybe try to take whatever else you have.
We can ignore reality but we can’t ignore the consequences of ignoring reality.

I'm totally unable to hoard booze. It's impossible
If I have the gift of prophesy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to move mountains but do not have love I am nothing. And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned but do not have love it profits me nothing.

While I agree with your comment, the way I look at it is if you don't have it to barter; someone else will.

A secret hoard of chocolate and fem hygiene products would do as well for most.

I second that.

I would like to add on a 2nd question,
How likely is the government to outlaw alcoholic if times are bad?

A certainty that commercial sales will be stopped, at least while riots are raging. Outlawing booze already in someone's possession? I don't think that would work very well. Bootleg laws? Actually I think meth would be the bigger problem.

If commercial sales are stopped this would increase the value of alcoholic barter items greatly during that period.

Only a fool would disable himself while such activity is going on. Then again, such a fool would be willing to pay extra for booze during such times. I'd have someone large and armed keeping watch in case someone wanted a "bargain".
