I've never tried this but what about a conductivity? (or is is called continuity??) Different metal compositions have different magnetic properties but they also have differing abilities to conduct electricity.

Think about how a coin comparitor works. I bet there is some sort of way to use similar technology to get a comparison. Thing is you would have to make sure you had a genuine reference coin or bar for this to work.

I just checked continuity on a 40% half, 90% half and quarter and a ASE and they are all the same so I'm not sure that would be beneficial. Not sure I can fine tune my tester to the point I could tell a difference though.

Wonder what those bars were made of?

Thogey, get their address and send it over to N. Korea. Might be a good place to conduct their next test.

Sign of the times isn't it....

So you go buy these.... http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/50928 ... _note.html

That actually appears to be a picture of a real one. They can't even take pictures of the fakes?

I was set up at a gun show last weekend and had a guy try to sell me fake "lunar snake bars" on Sunday

We need a Chris Hansen type to meet the fraudulent CL seller and get him on film. I don't know what it is, but I see reality TV shows in everything nowadays. Turn the tables on the thieves.

I just found this post on about 8 different forums. I hope it helps raise people's awareness about plated silver. I'm kind of concerned that it could have the reverse effect and actually motivate people to try and hock these knowing good profits can be had.

I'm sure it will have both effects. But the greater good is served by warning others.

Airtites and counterfeit: exactly why I prefer to avoid "collectibles".

Back in October 2012 I posted this concern....

You might think about contacting Sunshine and the other silver bar makers to see if they want to join in as you go after this guy.

I did get in touch with Amelia (253.528.1828) a contact in Pan-American Silver's legal department. She urged me to tell the seller to stop selling the fake pieces, and to forward her contact information to that buyer. If anyone else comes across fakes like these feel free to contact her.

So,
the guy who sold Junius the fake silver is now on the MASS most wanted list
AND
He is still trying to sell very expensive FAKE coins.
He now has
1873 cc trade dollar MS62
1874 trade dollar MS 62
and get this one
1893 S morgan AU50 (bid is $17,500)
He tried to meet one of my buddies yesterday.
He will not take these coins to a real coin shop because he knows the coin guys are too smart to bite.

Chris that website (Mass most wanted) is so sketchy and all the people on it look so shady. I'm glad to have met one of the non-violent individuals listed on that website.

It's strange, I really thought he had been caught already.

Couldn't the Secret Service get involved now that he is dealing with counterfeit legal tender?

I would have thought so too. Perhaps since he's already being followed by state and local authorities the secret service may have decided to stay out of it. Also we don't necessarily know that they aren't helping to apprehend this guy either.

If he googled for a backpack and a certain kitchen appliance we could be sure that he would be picked up pretty quickly. The is a campground not too far from me where all the dudes with Mass warrants on them spend the summer. He is probably there.

Just a quick update. I was contacted by an agent with the Secret Service, and met him along with another individual with the Department of Homeland Security.

I guess there is an ongoing case for that person. I met with them and provided copies of all the info I could give them on my encounter. Luckily I saved everything, even all the voice messages that person left on my phone.

Definitely some positive news, before getting their call, I thought the Feds weren't giving this any attention.

8-) 8-) It was pretty cool asking to see their ID's 8-) 8-)

Hi All,

Just got an email from a guy in the Baltimore area. Who purchased a large amount of 1 oz bullion bars back around January. They were packaged just like the ones I bought up here in New England. And ended up being counterfeits. For anyone in the MD area buying bullion (Matthew, Sunshine, Pan Am Scottsdale bars, etc.) Please exercise caution when buying from new sources.

With silver prices on the rise, this might become more of an issue again...
