Stick A Fork In Me - I'm Done.

Postby BamaJoe » Mon Oct 11, 2010 7:57 pm

Well, after hand sorting pennies for around 2 1/2 years I'm done, finished, kaput. My goal was to hit $1000 FV in standard copper and finishing my last box tonight I'm sitting at $1001.50 standard copper in additional to the $42.00 in wheat I got along the way. Only regret is that I never found that wild Indian along the way. My purpose was to build a decent stash to pass on one day to the kids or grandkids when they come along. Still going to save those I get in change, but no more boxes.

Guess I better up my half orders to take up the free time.
If you are waiting for the "correction" to buy you need to realize that the increasing prices ARE the correction.

Too early to quit.... You gotta have at least a TON of COPPERs. You don't want to disappoint Hoard?

Congrats on reaching your goal!! I also suspect you will get back to sorting, not necissarily for the copper but just because it's fun and you never know what you will find in the next roll.

You'll be back....I scored '4' IH's in my last $50 bag. Now is not the time to quit! Don't do it cold turkey. Gotta scale it down a bit. Cold turkey will be ugly...if not for you....somebody close to you!

Boy, I don't know what I'd do if I was to give up handsorting for coppers. I might have to leave retirement and go back to work if that was to ever happen. Then I'd have to start calling myself CleanFingers. BamaJoe, you better think twice and then maybe three times about quitting copper. A fella might go thru some pretty nasty copper withdrawals. Once it's in your system, it's pretty hard to get rid of it. ;)

I agree.

This whole coin thing in runing my life. It's even starting to get in the way of my drinking.

Congrats on meeting your goal! Also nice haul on the wheat pennies as well.

Sit back, relax, and bask in the success!

When you get bored there will be more pennies waiting for you at the bank. ;)

I haven't sorted pennies since July, actually since the last week of June. Haven't returned pennies since July :).

I haven't looked back at the hassle of the returns. It's not too hard to accumulate a couple $1k's in Cu in a short period of time, but it's just not really so crucial for me either right now.

Nice work getting to the $1k hoard! Very impressive.

How many boxes did you have to go through to reach $1000 FV in copper?

At the percentage I've been getting (around 15%) I will have to sort about 267 boxes. If you can get 25% (in my dreams) then it is only 160 boxes.
What I learned here:
A penny saved is a penny earned, 145 pennies saved is a pound.
