my mind was just wandering to this topic as i was sorting (that happens sometimes haha)

has anyone thought about/tried taking a couple dollars at a time and rubbing them through a rag soaked in gun oil or WD-40 or similar? I collect old metal fishing reels and I completely disassemble them and give the components a light coating this way to keep the rust etc out for storage. It doesn't take much to apply a light film.

any thoughts about this as a green crud deterrent etc.? i know all the numi materials say to wear gloves to keep finger oils off etc, but there's a difference between that and something silicone based like gun oil.

ps, if any of you have any fishing reels made by the Johnson Reel Co., especially the old green ones (Century, Citation, etc) please feel free to message me if you want a fair price for them
