I was headed to bed ...

Postby tractorman » Tue Feb 07, 2012 1:15 am

My bank is regional and has branches in the small towns around here. Today, I found myself in the towns with the 2 largest branches. I stopped in and got 2 $25 boxes from each one. Both of them handed me 2 used Brinks boxes taped closed with clear packing tape. I was curious, thinking maybe I got someone's re-rolled dump, so I checked one box from each branch and they were both full of red and white crimped bank rolls. Tonight, I hand sorted one of the opened boxes. I haven't counted them, but the takes seems like a normal 23% or so. Only 3 wheats, which stunk.

This of course is not why I'm posting right now. I got curious and decided to do a test run of the other open box. I opened 2 rolls and got 100 cents all dated between 1951 and 1981. How do I go to sleep now?!?!?!?!?

I sleep just as good knowing I've got good rolls to go through the next day. I just got an extra $50 today from my main place, weighed up one box of rolls, and it was not as good as it's been, felt lucky to get them anyways.

OK, here are the results of this box ...

2127 - 1959-1981 Cu
114 - 1982 Cu
256 - 1982-1990 Zn
3 - Wheat 1935,1945d,1946

What a haul!!

I peeked in the other 2 boxes ... one of them is actually a regular Brinks box with the plastic tubes, the other is another box of BWRs and the enders look a lot like this box. 8-) 8-)

Nope. I sorted the Brinks box. It looks like a regular 22-24%. 10 wheats or so. I wanted to sort the other "good" box, but I need to upgrade my current storage system. I've filled up my huge jar (probably 5 gal) and don't want to deal with another $20 FV with no good home. I'll get a clean 5 gal bucket tomorrow.

Over the past several months I've been a very small-time hand sorter. No more than a few boxes per month. I've read the reports of the super-sorters running in other parts of the country and I've been ramping it up. I'm happy with the 22-24% I usually get and I'm gonna get it while I can. Hitting a score like a 90% box is just amazing. Too much to hope for really, but you never know. :D They're out there!!
