Teller calls the fuzz on Quarter Guy

Postby Morsecode » Sun Mar 11, 2012 4:04 pm

I pull into a branch this morning two towns over. Hardly ever go there, but I was out & about and almost halfway there anyway...and I had a choice: I could dump a small (less than $50) zinc bag, or try to pick up a couple boxes. I opted to pick up. Good thing.

As I got into the bank I see a guy with several cloth bags by the PennyArcade, and a bank employee blocking his access to the machine. It gets a little heated (and at this point I'm very glad to not be waiting with my own cloth bag), when the supervisor asks one of the tellers to call the cops.

Apparently, the dude is not a hoarder...he owns, or manages, a laundromat nearby, and he's been told to stop bringing his commercial coin to the free arcade. At any rate, he finally blows her off and calls her a cow and struggles out the door with his quarters. Most entertaining.

BTW...after buying a box, I hung around in the parking lot to see if the cops showed up. They did. About 15 minutes :D

I'd hope the response time to an actual hold-up would be quicker.

Yeah, if quarter guy would have brought them chocolates I am sure it never would have come to that.

Great story! I wish my bank trips were more exciting like than. Mine are rather mundane.

Interesting....

I was thinking about delivering cookies to my tellers on Tuesday for my pickups...

Now I know I'm going to do it, no need to think.

The bigger issue is that they turned a customer away from depositing money into a financial institution - coin or cash.

Instead of calling the cops to alert them that someone had robbed the bank and taken money from them, they call the cops to tell them that someone is depositing too much money in the same denomination.

And we have come to expect this from financial institution as normal.............................. things will change...............

Hi all-

I don't know all the facts, but playing Devil's advocate here, this is the kind of stuff that gives coin guys a bad name and also the stuff that LEADS to fines and fees for us to do our biz.

I sort and dump like a maniac, so I'm NOT casting stones, but there is a polite way to do it- and it's NOT by being a jack@ss and making a big spectacle of yourself and abusing the opportunity to cashing coin for free.

Yes, coin is money, and yes banks can afford it, but every time I go into a bank, I am polite-I am calm- and I am as inconspicuous as possible- "Would it be alright if I cashed in some coins?" "Not a problem? Thank you very much!"- spoken with sincerity-!

According to the story, they DID ask him (probably politely) to stop bringing in coins to the machine and yet he continued to do so.....yeah, I'm kind of on the bank's side on this one, to be honest- guy was an @sshole.

Perfect description of the current leaders of our banking system.

From Jesse

"THE BANKS MUST BE RESTRAINED, AND THE FINANCIAL SYSTEM REFORMED, WITH BALANCE BETWEEN INDIVIDUALS AND THE CORPORATIONS RESTORED TO THE ECONOMY, BEFORE THERE CAN BE ANY SUSTAINED RECOVERY "
