Postby CanadianCopper » Wed Sep 05, 2012 10:48 pm

Thank you to everyone for taking a look at these finds and I apologize again for taking so long to post the rest of the results. I would be happy to answer any questions.

I will post a final tally/breakdown in the next few days. Here are some final pictures. In the first picture, I separated the wheats by decades:

Here are the complete results for the box. In total, there were 2234 wheat pennies. I have posted a picture with the complete breakdown of years and mint marks as well as a video going through them all with some additional pictures. As always, I'd be happy to answer any questions and look forward to your thoughts. Thank you to everyone for taking a look.

With so few "S" mints you must be on the East coast of Canada?

You're exactly right Henry. This was found in Ontario. Even in a typical box of pennies, with 4-8 wheat pennies, it is extremely rare to get an "S" mint mark up here in Canada on the east coast.

Great score! I love the AU wheats and personally keep them separate from the rest of the hoard. With the extra penny per roll you get the sense that those were rolled by some older fella with more conservative values. The last 4 CWR boxes I got was short a penny(or more) per roll and was from a fundraiser for the NCAA. Kids these days... Any S mints?

Amazing, the most I ever got in Canada was two rolls of wheats in a 25$ box also containing 6 other copper (pre-81) rolls from the US.
Common sense should prevail if not, misery will.

Thank you cuppoor! I would have to agree with you. There were 102 "S" mint marks. To see a full breakdown of mint marks and years, check out the picture I posted a few posts below this one. Thanks again for the nice comment.

That is very interesting mtal. I had something like this also about a year back, however there were no Wheats, just 8 rolls of American copper pennies. It is weird to find such interesting American scores in Canada.

CanadianCopper wrote:Thank you! I have never had any problem taking American pennies into a Canadian bank. I would say that 10-20% of the pennies in an average penny box our Americans. That said, I am fairly close to the border, so I am sure that makes a difference. Very interesting though!

Here in Winnipeg it usually averages about 4% U.S., though I recently got a box with 5
rolls of all U.S. cents and annother with mostly U.S. cents and a few pre-81 Canadians.
I think between 10 and 15 wheats in those rolls. The funny thing is those rolls were
marked "U.S." right on the roll so I knew before opening it. I do wonder if we see
more wheat pennies up here because fewer people are picking them out and they
just kept recirculating.
