STATE PENNIES!!!

Postby uthminsta » Thu Sep 27, 2012 12:44 am

I wasn't sure where to put this thread... here, or in tracking, or even in the wanted section. Because I would actually like to get more of these, but would rather the main focus be on the coolness factor. So let's get to the coolness.

Okay, that's what I have. Have you found any of these state pennies in your searches? Do you keep them? Wanna show off some pics?

Very cool! I have about half a dozen states so far. Sure you could buy em on eBay.. but where would the challenge be in that?

Discussion can can continue here certainly. I've created a new tracking thread for those members that would like to post their finds.

Yeah, thanks Country. I think it's probably best that we either use just the thread in the tracking forum, or we merge them.

These are kinda neat! I've never seen one in the wild so far. I found a penny with a small head on it...I think it was Kennedy.

I found the one with Kennedy head as well, don't know where that one came from but probably some kind of kennedy set. Last penny like this I found was Alaska, and they go into a tube labeled "stamped pennies"

So how do these come into existence? I've found a few so far, but I thought they came bored people stamping coins. I never thought they were officially sanctioned or worth anything...

I have mine sitting in a little pile of pennies that aren't worth anything but are interesting for some reason or another; weirdly colored, stamped, extremely corroded, etc...
267,500 pennies and 186,000 nickels searched. Hand sorter.

FYI..... I've seen the Kennedy head stamped on the Lincon head penny and being sold as a novelty. It is sold with a listing and description of the two presidents' coincidental similarities in their personal lives, presidential terms and assasinations, etc.
