Wild Indian Sighting

Postby NYSorter » Wed Oct 24, 2012 3:36 pm

Hand sorter here...took up this hobby about 2 years ago, started keeping records about 1 1/2 years ago.

In going through $10 of pennies I picked up today, I found a slightly beaten up 1901 IH.

It took 28,500 pennies to find my first IH in the wild since I started with sorting (I saw an occasional IH in the wild as a kid). Hopefully, the next one will come soon, but from reading the board, wild Indian sightings are rare (approx every 250,000 according to some posters here).

Hopefully, today's IH was just a scout and a tribe will follow him 8-)

Congratulations!

Now you will forever be chasing that high.

Congrats on your IH find.
I haven't kept detailed records on how many boxes it took to find my first Indian Head Cent, but after 4 years of penny sorting I found one. But keep a look out for more Indians. I've read alot of posts where someone will find one and then another and another !! This includes myself--I found 2 Indians in 1 box a couple months after I found my first. Good luck and hope this is the start of a whole tribe of Indians headed your way.

Congrats. I haven't found an Indian in a while, roll searching or in change.

I found my first IH yesterday. It was beat to hell and I believe the date was 1905.

I have only hand sorted about $250 in Brinks boxes. Beginners luck. 8-)
