My new roll opener

Postby crbattery » Sun Apr 21, 2013 7:21 pm

I know some of you wanted to see a video of my roll opener. I never got around to getting a video of that one. However today I spent a rainy day making my new coin roll opener. The video is kinda bad and there is more left to do to the unit but its heck of a start. http://youtu.be/MprvK2QTU_k

That is wicked awesome! "Finger protector" or "finger shield" would be good... I can only imagine the pain if I slipped and got my finger in there instead of a roll! :o

That is cool.
It looks like you got a batch of new pennies in the bucket.
HCBTT may want to purchase one of them from you.

If I had one I would first put a sign on it that said, "don't insert thumb". Then I probably would anyway :(

Boy that would sure make sorting interesting, gotta be on high alert or you could pay the price. I tend to zone out and become a robot while sorting so those teeth could cause trouble. Cool innovation though, thanks for sharing.

I would just have my little kids run this. Their fingers are too small to get sucked into the machine

Thanks everybody!! I am going to be making a feeder hopper as well as a paper separator spillway. More to come this weekend. Just picked up my 16 boxes for the week so I have some rolls to work with. I may someday incorporate this along with a conveyor to feed the ryedale penny playground. I am all about making things a little easier in the long run. Thanks again and glad you all like the video. Happy Hunting

I suggest a short feed tube mounted at an angle, so you can drop rolls down the tube and keep your fingers away from danger. Nice work!

That is very cool!!! I like the idea tinhorn had about the feed tube. It would be a lot safer and certainly more convenient. You could just use a pipe at an angle or even a V shaped piece you could just drop the rolls on and let them slide into the chopper.

for a feeding tube, I would suggest a length of angle iron, tilted down toward the machine.

that is one sick machine... ever though about peeling bananas for del monte??

A PVC conduit 90 could make a nice feeding tube.

Nice, is that roll opening machine making all that noise? I also saw a drill on it's side. Is the drill running the feeder system or is the motor that is shown, running the feeder system?

I got a feed tray on it yesterday. I would really like a from the box of rolls auto feed hopper in the future but i think this will do for now. I want it to feed a roll about every 6-7 seconds. My electrical engineering is pretty weak. No video of the tray yet. Holds two rows of rolls. About a box. Needs a couple modifications yet but its functional. I need to make the roll catcher tray next. For now i just catch and open em as they come out. Really easy on the hands. I will update when I modify the tray. Happy Hunting all!!

I suppose I should add the pictures ;)

Green angle was the first attempt. Worked but wasn't right. The tray is much better.
