Coin folder purchase

Postby J_Dodge » Wed Sep 04, 2013 9:29 am

About a month ago, I found my first IH. It was a rush, and after reading here on RC about
how rare they are in the wild, I decided to go active on acquiring them.

I found a posting in the employee classifieds where I work - the gentleman had several partial
folders of coins that he had found at estate sales, garage sales, etc over the years. He was looking
to thin out the collection.

I bought a folder of IH, and a folder of Jefferson nickels.

In the IH folder I found:

1880 G4 5.00
1882 G4 5.00
1884 G4 5.50
1885 G4 8.00
1886 G4 6.00 Variant 1
1887 G4 3.00
1888 G4 3.00
1889 G4 3.00
1890 G4 3.00
1891 G4 3.00
1892 G4 3.00
1893 G4 3.00
1894 G4 5.00
1895 G4 3.00
1896 G4 3.00
1897 G4 3.00
1898 G4 3.00
1899 G4 3.00
1900 F12 4.50
1901 G4 2.00
1902 G4 2.00
1903 G4 2.00
1904 G4 2.00
1905 F12 4.50
1906 G4 2.00
1907 G4 2.00
1908 G4 2.00
1909 G4 10.00

The 1904 IH head I found while searching rolls is a G4.

Grades & prices are from the 2014 Red book.

I paid $35 for the IH, $25 for the nickels. In the nickel folder were WWII nickels - all present excpet 1943P. I haven't looked at them
in detail to pick out the various grades at this time.

The fellow has more folders - some Buffalo nickels, more IH, also folders of Wheats (eyeballed these - no 1909S VDB :( or other dates <sigh>).
These coins are a piece of history. My plans are to get as many of these folders as I can - get my grand daughter started with collecting when
she gets older.
