Just when I though I was out...

Postby Diggin4copper » Fri Jan 10, 2014 5:58 pm

They suck me back in.. :D Ive been sorting nickles and dimes lately, finding a bit of silver here and there.. I have not unpacked the Rydale since I moved.. This week, all they had were customer wrapped pennies, so I bought 10 bucks worth... Hit a wheat vein.. 10 to 12 wheats in each roll... went back and got the rest (another 8 bucks) and the streak continued. Big pile of wheats to start the year... last roll had a 1909 VDB! I wont pass on pennies anymore.. time to unpack the Rydale...

I've been itching to sort again, it's a great distraction, between the canadians, wheats, copper, and zinc, it's pretty fun, not to mention finding pennies in a hundred year or more range rather easily. Still, don't fool yourself, these pennies ain't worth much! I think that's one reason so many older ones are found, nobody see's any value in them.

You, too, man? I just moved also. I've been going to new branches in the area and sure enough, just HAD to ask if they had a couple boxes of pennies they'd sell. Sheesh--I've got a pile of pennies and the Ryedales are buried under tons of boxes in the shed. Some habits are just hard to break. My sweetie asked me what the heck I was doing and I had to confess that a new branch with unknown tellers is too great a challenge.

Say, I've still got your coin counter. I ran it last spring to make sure it still worked.

Congratulations on the VDB and IH. I've been out totally for 4 months and basically for 7 months; maybe I should start again. It's time consuming and not very profitable with floundering copper prices and a melt ban still in place, but it sure is fun to find older coins than you usually ever can with other denominations.

I need to jump back in. Stopped recently after all my bank branches said 'no' when I asked for a box of pennies. A few turned me away even if I reduced my request to a single roll. Really??? You don't even have one roll??? You're a bank???

Funny. A couple of locations said they just gave all the rolls to another customer. Another said the person with access to the safe had left for the day... It is usually late in the day when I go by so who knows.
