What are People Paying for Common Dt. Copper Cents?

Postby Recyclersteve » Wed Oct 15, 2025 3:23 pm

What are People Paying for Common Dt. Copper Cents? I don’t want to sell anything right now and have to do shipping and, yes, I will call local dealers. But I’m curious if there are any places around the country where perhaps there is more demand and the price is better…
Former stock broker w/ ~20 yrs. at one company. Spoke with 100k+ people and traded a lot (long, short, options, margin, extended hours, etc.).

NOTE: ANY stocks I discuss, no matter how compelling, carry risk- often
substantial. If not prepared to buy it multiple times in modest amounts without going overboard (assuming nothing really wrong with the company), you need to learn more about the market and managing risk. Also, please research covered calls (options) and selling short as well.

I called 4 dealers in my general area (I’ll keep the location confidential) and found very little to no appetite for copper cents. One dealer wouldn’t even buy wheat cents for anything above face!

The most I was offered for wheaties was 2-2 1/2 cents each. Ouch!

Out of curiosity, I called the largest shop in my area.

They won't buy bulk wheats right now (they said they currently use wheats to give customer's change). They also aren't buying any sovereign silver, other than Eagles. They are currently selling 90% at spot (no premium), and most sovereigns at $1 over spot.

I'm guessing shops might be getting flooded with people selling, and not much in the way of people buying.

I think you’re talking about silver. This thread is about copper.

Not entirely true. I sell wheat PENNIES on a regular basis. And I assure you that these people are not buying them for the copper content.
