Am I the first to think of this?

Postby AGgressive Metal » Tue Apr 05, 2011 5:35 am

We call post-82s Zincolns, so I thought I'd call post-97 Canadian cents Queels! Or maybe Steelizabeths. :P If Maggie was the Iron Lady, Elizabeth is the Steel Queen, now. :P It works for post-91 British pennies too!

Queels it is, then. Good call.

The other one is too long to catch on.

I prefer Steelizabeth's.

Queels doesn't evoke a thought of "steel" well enough.

One problem though: All Canadian modern coinage is steel, so this may not be specific enough.

You could always put denomination in front. 1 queel, 10 queel, 25 queel etc.

Some of the Canadian cents are zinc-
1997 to 1999
Composition: 98.4% zinc, 1.6% copper plating
Weight (g): 2.25
Diameter (mm): 19.05
Thickness (mm): 1.45

2000 to date
Composition: 94% steel, 1.5% nickel, 4.5% copper plating or copper plated zinc
Weight (g): 2.35
Diameter (mm): 19.05
Thickness (mm): 1.45

I do not know if that helps with a name...

For what its worth I like steelizabeths or maybe just steel queens.

I'm waiting for some of our Canadian friends to weigh in on this.

Steel Lizzies

A little easier to get out than steelizabeths, I think.
