I would love 1 day as a mint employee. I would have gold/platinum/silver/bronze versions of everything :)

I would mint-error my way to retirement in one day :)

Amen. I'm right there with you, buddy. :) I'm sure that some of the mint employees sneak around and intentionally make stuff so as to create a 'market' for it later. Then they keep all the errors they created except for one and put the one out in circulation to someone.

I'm not too sure there's much opportunity to do any sneaking around at the mint these days. Probably have to go through 3 checkpoints, a retinal scan, and a pat down on the way to the cafeteria. Although, the guy who created the extra leaves on the Wisconsin quarter found a way.

I'd bet that the gold indian penny was not so much an error as it was some mint employee's novel attempt at commemorating the new century. Security was pretty lax until after WWII.

Let me get this straight...

For a $600,000 coin, they will do free standard shipping.

I wonder if that includes insurance...

haha as far as sneaking errors out of the mint
saw a special on one of the cable channels
i forget how many layers of search you have to go through to get from the actual minting to the outside but it was pretty intense.
