Anybody use an impulse sealer and plastic bags?

Postby Number21 » Fri Apr 15, 2011 5:20 am

I'd like to start packaging both my zincs and coppers in $50 "lots". I was thinking about getting an electric impulse sealer like this:

Just buy plastic "tubing" and seal both ends to make a bag. I would think these would be good for stacking, possible shipping, and easy to slice open and dump in a coin return machine.

Anybody else bag them like that? Is there a better method?

Why not just use the free Tyvek bags at the Post Office? They can be used for storing as well. Very strong material.

Hmmm...I guess those would be great for shipping, but any other use is technically illegal and I like something clear so I can see all my dirty money... :D I want to stash at least a ton, but keep it in conveniently moveable portions.

I have used my gamesaver vacuum sealer to seal up some coppers...test is still in progress but looks promising.

I use to buy big rolls of visqueen 4 mill or so plastic sheeting at walmart , then cut "squares" the size I need, seal 3 sides, fill with copper, then vacuum seal.

VERY cheap making your own bags like that, and you can get thicker heavier plastic sheeting than that if you desire.

if you need bigger bags than you have a sealer, take 2 sheets of plastic, pinch between 2 boards with an 1/8 or 1/4 inch hanging out, then use a lighter/propane torch/etc to "melt" the flap sticking out.
