1909's

Postby Chief » Thu May 05, 2011 1:02 am

I found a 1909 today. It is a kind of worn, but still in okay condition. Is there anyway to tell a 1909 from a 1909 VDB, besides the little VDB? It appears to have something where the VDB should be, but it is a 102 year old penny. Hopefully you guys will have some more info for me.
By the way, this is my earliest Lincoln!! :D (I guess you can't get much earlier... ;) )

other than using a mag.i think you would have to call it a 1909.it would be hard to convince someone otherwise,
good find nonetheless.
in God i trust. all others pay with precious metals.

1909's are a cool find. A better find if has the V.D.B. on the reverse bottom. A much better find if it's a "S" mint. And the best find if it has an "S" mint with the V.D.B. on the reverse!

There is a tracking thread for 1909 finds....post it and join the club!

Nice Find and I agree with the others. As far as finding differences between a plain 1909 and a 1909 VDB they both have exact details with no way to tell the difference.

But if you had a VDB it would be prominent regardless of how worn it is. There are however tricks with something say like a 1914-D with details like the VDB being on his shoulder or not, etc.
