First 1909

Postby avidbrandy » Thu Jun 02, 2011 11:07 pm

Yay. I found my first 1909 penny while searching. I've been using the ryedale to sort copper out and then hand searching for wheats. Just got a 1909. Every single other wheat I've found is 40s and 50s so this was really nice. It's a close AG-3 or G-4 but looks like a G. made my evening.

Awesome. I'm still waiting for my first.

Pics? Mintmark? I've found 2 with no mintmark so far, not in very good condition however. Still waiting for the vdb s!

Anyways congrats.

Good find! Was it in the cooper pile? I found a like new 54 last night and a really nice 29.
How do you use the ryedale? Do you search the zinc's? Out of 10 bags I have found nothing of value in my zincs and I am starting to wonder if I am ever going to find anything i the zinc's.

I gotta get a new charger cause I lost mine and can't take pictures right now. =(

It's no mint mark and bad condition, but date was readable.

I do a zinc accept, and then take the copper box and do a copper accept to verify them, and then hand search those.

The zincs I don't go through, because It's too much time for a few stray coppers. I don't even sort them again for mistakes.

I've been hand sorting for five months now and I've found three 1909's. Two were in good condition and the third had full wheat lines but both sides of the coin was covered in that green crud.
