my turn for boxes of 2011s

Postby GTOJohn » Thu Jun 09, 2011 6:06 pm

well, today it is my turn. i have been reading where some of you have been getting boxes of new pennies - but i always figured that it could not happen to me.
well, i am now the proud owner of 14 boxes of shiny new 2011s! great, a regular pick-up bank, regular weekly order, brought them in, had some free time and thought i would run a batch of $100 bucks thru...and WOW....i was quite surprised when i opened the first box and the rolls all had a shiny 2011 ender.

great - at least i have a bunch of boxes to sort - so i wont be bored.
just thought this would bring a smile to some of you -

eBay those shiny toads. I'm getting around $32 + $12.49 shipping per $25FV box. Probably make more if I sold them in $50 lots as up to 3 boxes fit in a med. flat rate.

I have 3 boxes now. Just say the word and I'll send them to you for FV and shipping and...make an offer.

Supply and demand. I love capitalism even if it does cost me money sometimes.

I stopped by the local coin shop - asking if he knew of any interest - i offered to trade a few boxes - for $1 FV of 90% each - no luck. guess the novelty is wearing off the shields.

I took a box today. The teller had to talk me into it. Sounded like there was a lot more for the taking.

Well, they do make a good doorstop. 8-)

Picked up 4 boxes in the last 4 days from three different branches of my supply bank. Each time crossing my fingers and closing my eyes for a second and then hold my breath to peek through the holes in the box(es). I've got a couple new boxes recently and they're a pain sometimes to get rid of.

I'm 4 for 4 in getting older pennies and the first three gave up some good copper (up to 32%), some decent pre-1940 wheats, a 1932 semi-key, and a nice 1903 indian head. I prefer stuff like this over a new box. It's June so a new box....really isn't "NEW" anymore....at least price wise.

i wish everyone luck in only getting boxes of circulated pennies. today, at the pickup bank that i got the boxes of 2011s last week, my weekly order came in - Great news - back to normal! i was real glad to look in the holes, and not see a bunch of shiny new zincs looking at me.

to all of you that are getting bags - See what you are missing! not only do you miss out on the fun of un-rolling, but you wouldnt get a bag of 2011s.
i know, im just jealous.

avidbrandy probably has enough to sell 10 boxes to anyone that wants some 2011s. I've got a few boxes I want to dump without going on the bay. Pay for the box, the shipping and my gas money to the Post Office and they're yours. (Sorry if this goes in the Buy It Now forum.)

Yea I don't know how many I have left. I have 13 boxes here in this room with me and probably another 15-20 in my trunk. When I first got them all I thought the shocks had busted on my car before realizing the entire back was weighed down by over 500 lbs of pennies. It's an old buick lesabre.

Getting shipments of $600 a week so far, with no issues since then thankfully.

kinda funny how they pop up once in a while - and in groups (i got 14 boxes at one time). glad to be sorting again - a wheat ender is better than a shield! makes ya wonder if they start grabing boxes from a new shelf, if we are making a dent in the supply, ???

I just ran across my first box of dirty rolled 2011's today. I hope the rest of the boxes aren't the same. California is bad enough with only about a 19% copper retrieval rate, without having to experience zinc zilch.

life is good........a different branch gave me two more boxes of shiney shields......they can join the other boxes...........
BUT they did have $25 in CWRs....
this branch is not an easy place to get pennies from(they dont want to order me more than 2 boxes a week), so i am glad to get anything.
