1962 uncirculated pennies

Postby stonewallrabbitry » Wed Jul 06, 2011 1:34 pm

Hi everyone, I am new to this forum and just got into keeping my copper pennies from my change in the last six months. I just made my first purchase of cooper coins, they are 1962 and appear to be uncirculated. The woman I bought them from said her rich boss left them to her when he died. Are 1962 uncirculated pennies worth more than others?

Copper, cooper. Nickel, nickle. Silver, sliver. Dime, diem. Whatever.......

I gave up trying to correct the spelling of adults long ago.

If they are uncirculated then there may be modest collector value but there is nothing rare about pennies from 1962. Keep stacking and welcome to Realcent!

Welcome to realcent.

Those guys were just bustin your balls. This place is like a high school locker room. Sometimes you get whipped with a wet towel.

Hang on to your BU 62's, they don't make them any more.

Yeah can we please not jump on someone in their first post ever about spelling? I don't mean to come off self-righteous, but for all you guys know he is dyslexic or English is a second language or something. That said, fair warning: thogey is right, and he would know, because I hear he spends a lot of his spare time in high school locker rooms.

I know 1966, 1969, and 1971 are all worth more than face...not sure if collector value exceeds melt value though...

The chart is like 5 years old, but i save the three dates posted above in a separate jar

unless they are complete original rolls your not going to fetch more than copper prices for them. With that said who knows what the future holds, i like to call them premium copper pennies. One day they have to worth a tad bit more right?? Who knows......oh and welcome my friend.

Just a heads up to the spelling correctors among us: my iPhone auto-correct likes to change copper to cooper for some strange reason. I try to catch it but don't always succeed. So that may be a problem others may have also.

If I post on here again I will be sure to triple check spelling, I did not know that spelling was so important to the people on this forum. I bought 141 rolls that look like original rolls from 1962 and and the other 10,118 pennies are loose in two canvas bags. I bought them to save for the COPPER value but then I thought that they might be worth more for a collector, I saw some being sold online for a few dollars a roll so I wasn't sure

Original rolls will fetch more than individual coins, I think. Keep them wrapped! :)

Stonewallrabbitry - welcome and don't worry about the spelling. Between my WAY below par typing skills and nerve damage in both elbows which results in some numbness in my hands I know I've written a few words that had people wondering whether I was having a few too many adult beverages at the time. Some I fix on edit and some I don't.

Now on to those 62's. Since that is my birthyear I wouldn't mind having a few rolls if you are interested in selling. Give me a shout if you are.
If you are waiting for the "correction" to buy you need to realize that the increasing prices ARE the correction.

Thanks to the other guys that are not giving me a hard time about spelling. Bamajoe I have nerve damage in my shoulder that causes some numbess in my hands, for a long time I could not even move my fingers and the doctors said I never would. I would not mind trading or selling a few rolls, how can I tell if they are original wrappers? Some look like they where hand wrapped a long time ago because the ends are folded over like other wrappers I have seen. Some of the rolls have the ends rolled under so you can see the coins, they say "Automatic coinwrapping machine corp., N.Y. Batdorf patents-Mar.2,1915

I will trade you two for one....I can fill a small flat rate box of cooper pennies and you in turn mail me back half of what i sent. I would prefer the original bank rolls. And really don't mind some on here they are bored...we are in the silver doldrums right now. Welcome.

Bama my arms and hands are fine, I do get some numbness in the space between my ears though. That often results in misspelled words. You know, we really should have a spellcheck option here! ;)
