Thoughts about IH's for sale

Postby reddirtcoins » Fri Jul 22, 2011 6:15 pm

found a shop with about 100+ Indian Head pennies for sale.. Most looked to be 1900+ and you could see the wear but less than half were not bad.. Some had most of the liberty in the band etc...
Thoughts about a $1.60 each for these? I'm thinking about offering $1.25 per for all of them.

Ummm, not a good buy unless they are "high" quality. I mean, do quite a number of them have partial to near full liberties and such? Average circulated Indians can be had for around .70-.90 cents each in decent condition. That's my opinion, I had trouble moving around 3,000 decent condition common Indians over .80 each 1890-1908.

I agree with Scotty. 70 - 80 cents is plenty.

Sounds like a good use for all those dimes you have been finding in your bags!

When it comes to numismatics and collecting, buying the best (or the best grade you can afford to) is the usually the right course of action. So if you want an IHC, pay 125 dollars for a quality one and you'll be miles ahead of buying 100 for 1.25 a pop. It's better to have one nice key date coin then a whole pile of bad collector coins. Now if you want to create a any kind of IHC set. That's whole other story. As advice given above, closer to .80 for them. Point is, like everything else, make sure not to overpay.
