I have just now become interested in sorting pennies and am getting about 5.00 face value in copper per box, is this about right?

That would be 20%. Sounds right for some parts of the country. Some guys in California are getting about 15%. Some of us are luckier and get closer to 30%.

I'm getting around 19% to 20% copper in Southern California. But I probably see more 'S' mint marks here.
