Is it a good sign when your roll has the date 5/31/1921?

So I go into the bank for some nickels today and see some really old looking penny rolls on the counter. I ask to buy $5 worth, and take them out to my car for a look. There were three rolls that caught my eye.

One has "OLD" written on it, one has "63D BRILL UNC", and another looks really old, and has "Patented May 31, 1921" printed on it. I start to get excited, and open the "old" roll. All copper, and a good amount of wheats. I open the 63D roll, and sure enough, all 1963 D's. I open the old brown roll, and it is all copper with a couple of wheats. I go back in and as to buy the rest of the rolls, another $12.50. All are wrapped in old wrapping, but no other notes other than names and account numbers. (Hmmmm, thinking of a ebay auction UNSEARCHED ROLLS FROM 1921!!)

I have not gone through them yet, but I am pretty excited about this pickup. Of course, the thought never crossed my mind until I got home, that I should have asked for nickels, dimes, and quarters wrapped like this.

These old brown rolls are actually pretty cool, they are a flat piece of paper, that when you wrap them around your coins, based off the diameter of the coin, the proper denomination shows through a little window.

Very cool rolls. The patent is from 1921 but they could have produced them for 50 years. I wouldn't mind having a couple of these empty wrappers for my penny wrapper collection.

I know it does not mean the roll is actually from 1921, but its a nice thought right? Usually when you see a patent date on something, it is not a date from too long ago.

So this lot got me 84% copper, and 125 wheat cents. One roll was solid wheats. There were a lot of rolls that were close to solid dated. Also, the funny thing was, the 'ancient' brown wrappers were the only ones with zinc in them. There were a couple of solid dated rolls from the 90's.

Not a bad take, but I was hoping for a bigger stash of indians.
