Hello From An Extreme Penny Sorter

Postby crazypennyguy » Thu Sep 22, 2011 7:36 pm

Since there isn't any section devoted to introductions, I might as well introduce myself here. I dabbled in penny sorting a few years ago, but I have to live up to my nick so I laid in $3,750 worth of pennies for hand-sorting. $1,250 more are on the way.

I live in Toronto, and got my pennies from a coin-sorting company (Trillium Coin Service.) They've likely weeded out the foreign coins, but I'm sure there's lots of coppers waiting to be found. Here's my stash:

If anyone's interested, I'll be keeping statistics along the way. I'll also be blogging it, but I'll save the details for the appropriate portal.
I did it. I've been crazy enough to sort through 10,000 rolls of pennies. Almost makes you think, "some people will do anything to build up a coin collection."

(drooling...) :P

Can you swing a reverse arrangement with them to take the zincs back? Now that would be sweet.

You will. I've got the September hand-sorter thread bookmarked.

Thanks. I've already checked out the hand-sorter thread, and I see I've got some stiff competition :)

If only I could swing it, but it's to the bank for me. I said to the teller that I'd be helping the branch with their penny quota and saving them delivery charges from the coin depot. She liked that.

Hello northern neighbor and welcome to the addiction. Impressive fresh load. If you come down to Buffalo to shop grab a box or two of ours. I am pulling 30%+ in coppers and a good 6% are Canadians so far this year.

I haven't been able to catch Morsecode yet... looks like you have a chance. Looking forward to seeing your finds on the hand sorter thread.

Ahh...but this is because I presume you have a life, whereas I...

Good load! I heard there are a lot of Americans in Canada's change here in Toronto. Comes from the loonie being near par.

I might have a similar percentage. Not many people seem aware of the premiums in coppers.

Welcome to the forum.....May I suggest since you are pushing a large volume that you consider moving from hand sorting to this: http://www.ryedalecoin.com/ :) I think you will find it just as enjoyable :!:

Good suggestion, but I want to highlight any interesting ones I find. Even if I use the Ryedale, I'd go through a lot of 'em by hand anyway.
