Storing your pennies- kitty litter or 5 gallon buckets

Hi there-

Just for the sake of maximizing space, I broke down and got empty paper penny rolls. I store the sorted cents in the boxes I got them from. THE most space efficient way to store, and can be lifted without injury. Costs ya a couple bucks in supplies but looks nice and tidy when stacked.

Even nicer if you machine roll them!

I just use those Mint bags. Very sturdy. Of course you need to place them where you want them before filling. I don't move them.

I use the Kitty Litter buckets during processing. I think the regular size one holds about 18,000 coins unshaken, and the bonus size one holds 22,000 coins.

They hold more if you take the litter out first.

Yes, but the kitty litter is a cheap moisture absorbent.

I like the idea of rolling and storing in original boxes. But, without a coin roller I can't see putting in the time to hand roll all of that coin.

It's pretty easy to reseal the boxes once you fill them, and they stack nicely on pallets. Still w/o a coin roller the task is daunting.

Yeah, it is pretty time consuming, I agree, haha- The rolled cents are for my personal stockpile- to be used only in times of emergency- so if I'm going to be walking around them for a long time potentially, I wanted them to look nice

Rerolling the copper doesn't take that much extra effort. After sorting through the 50 rolls in a box I only have 8 rolls of copper to put into wrappers. Just takes a few minutes at the end of sorting the box. I'm already counting them anyway for tracking my stats.

I have been storing my copper in 50 cal ammo cans. A can will hold $100.00 loose cents. The full cans also make good mass for storing heat in the winter time.

Rerolling is no trouble at all if you have the right equipment laying around. Just toss them in and hit the button.

I like the .30 cal ammo cans for storage. Perfect for rolled cents and 100 rolls fit in them nicely. A little easy to lift than those .50 cal cans.

Hand roll I can fit $48 face rolled into a 33.9 oz coffee can. Stack neatly in the corner of the garage. This is what works for me.
