+1 Thanks for the great tip! I am off to start putting mine together that way.
Would also be a wonderful idea for all our searching kids and grandkids.

I noticed the 1965 quarter and 1971 dollar as the oldest of those two denominations. A lot of us here are probably stuck on those years too. But I keep searching in hopes finding a dollar coin from before 1971.

I gotta say, this is a wonderful idea. I am starting a local coin club this fall, and this is going to be a contest for the junior members. The club will give you one of these cases when you sign up as a "junior member," then at every meeting, you bring it back, showing off the oldest of each coin you've found. I haven't decided yet whether it will be "found" or "bought."

That it is a great idea!
I would suggest "Found", as it is much more challenging and a bit more fun. You could also work up a point system where each coin is worth a point for each year old it is. ex. 2013-1964= 49 points. Add up the points for each denomination and the winner gets bragging rights or something like a coin book book!

I found a 1794 Promissory Halfpenny from Britain in a Half Dollar bag.

In the same half dollar bag was also a 1816 Waterloo Halfpenny.

This is as good a place to post this find as any. We moved to a bigger place and my hobby delegated to the basement by the family recreational director. I knew in my heart this was the time to make the move away from hand and pachinko ryedale sorting to the Big-Time!

I fired up the Blue Ryedale I bought from itsmerobbyb with around 10K cents. Out of it poped an 1888 IH :o then my wife (Joan) found an 1886 IH  . While I'm no coin grader and have yet to put them to the loupe they look to be about VF20. I'm trying not to get my hopes up the '86 is even better than that.

The good part is Joan thinks the new toy is "Fun" as least for the evening. These are the oldest sorted to date. She's finally got the camera out, recharging the batt., bought a lens adaptor, and with luck she'll have figured out how to use it by the week-end. Will post pics as soon as I catch up to the tech-know-ledgy.

Not bad, it only took me 3 and a 1/4 years to catch up on the sorting learning curve, Dur. And I thought it couldn't get more fun than it already was. Yesterday evening I found a local bank with change counter in the lobby. Only problem is . . . I think I caught some kind of disease . . . from one of you all :shifty: . . . <<need more therapy>> . . . ROB!!!

Tonight I found a 1910. It's pretty worn, but definitely better condition than the 1911.

And today I found an 1894 Indian Head penny. It's not in very good condition, but still way better than that 1911. So I guess I won't be updating this again if I do ever find a 1909...

Didn't expect to have to update this again already...

Last night I found an 1887 IH penny. Pretty worn and old looking, but no specific part of it looks too "damaged".

The oldest was and 1880 penny but I found it quite a few years ago in change at school from lunch. The most recent was a 1930s quarter and a few buffalo nickels. Also a Canadian 1928 nickel.
