Dumpster diving at the bank. . . not my finest moment.

I'm dumping pennies at the bank and I noticed a few coins in the adjacent garbage can. So I shake it slightly and it sounds like more like a dozen or so. Fortunately this bank has a separate room for coin sorting and I'm pretty much unobserved save a window in the door. The next thing I know I'm breaking several rules of human etiquette in the course of retreiving said coins. However, my shame was partially mitigated by the take:

1 Cayman Island penny
6 Canadian quarters (5 of them NI)
2 Canadian dimes (both NI)
1 1991 1 Franc coin (NI)
1 British Pound coin (my second from this bank)
1 1943 Steel Wheat penny

Its hard to believe people throw these away!

I hear that if you head far enough south you just might find a West coast bank with a coin counter. San Diego is nice this time of year. :P

Have any of you ever been caught looking under the counting machine for extra coins to throw in? That's a killer. I always get the "what are you doing on the floor?" question from some random customer.

Have any of you ever dumpster dived in a coin shop's dumpster?

To which you should reply, "I dropped a quarter! Mind your own business!"

To do list for next week:
1) Head to the coin shop and look for some bargains.
2) Walk out of the coin shop, go into the alley (dumpster) looking for bargains. ;)

I like the way you guys think. :D

Make sure you wear gloves when you're dumpster diving :D

uth - My simple reply is this "I have misplaced my coins, do you have any I can have?"

Of course the mind your own business would work great too hehe.

This cannot be! I have it on good word (the tellers who refuse to let me keep the foreigns because they have to ship them out.)

On the other hand, I have managed to get about 50 pounds of foreigns and what can I do with them anyway?
