One great roll ... so far (update: 1960 sm dates)

I just opened quite an interesting roll. 45 keepers out of 50 coins.

21 - 1960
12 - 1960d
8 - other Cu LMCs
3 - wheaties 1937, 1954, 1957
1 - canadian 1964

The thing is ... this isn't a CWR, its one of those shotgun(?) rolls, the red and whites ones with both ends crimped. I guess the bank wraps them? I stopped in and asked for a box (a branch of my regional bank in another town, my first time there, the other branches give Brinks boxes). They didn't know anything about boxes, but both of the tellers were happy to give me the $10 they had at their stations. I was happy to get almost a box. So I've got 39 more rolls to open!!

When I asked for the cents I was expecting a box, so when she offered me the $20 she asked if I had anything to carry them in. I didn't. She went to the back and came back with 2 large zip lock bags. She dumped her tray in one and the other teller's tray in the other. It appears one of the trays was really good and the other one looks more normal (looking at the enders). I'm half way through the good batch ($5.00 so far) and they've all been like the first roll. Almost all of them are 1960, wheats are running pretty even with 1961-1982 coppers. And then there's the occasional zincoln. I'm tellin' ya ... LOTS of 1960 dates.

I think I will look through the other $5.00 now. This is fun!

OK, $10.00 searched ... here's the count ...

687 - 1960 & 1960d
105 - wheat cents 1935, 1937 and 103 - 1940/50
103 - zincolns (newest was 2004 as I recall)
91 - 1961-1981 Cu LMC (zero 1959)
8 - 1982 Cu (zero 1982 Zn)
6 - Canadian 1944, 1959, 1964, 1965, 1967, 1970

Wow! Stepping back and looking at that, well ... its just ridiculous. How does that happen? I've got another $10.00 from the other station at the same bank and, based on the enders, I'd bet dollars to donuts that it will be a normal 20-25% Cu batch. I'm not complaining, just baffled.

Sweet! I just picked up $25 in CWRs and 20 of the rolls had old yellowed scotch tape on each end... I opened them separately and there was 5 1984s, 1 1983, and 4 1982 zincs... the rest were coppers... must have been sitting since 1985,,,,

Which is about what I expected after looking at the enders. Keep a sortin'!

I've been picking away at them and finally finished. To the 687 from this bunch, I added 13 more 1960 cents to make it an even 700. I searched them for small dates and found 49 - 1960D and 0 - 1960 small dates. There was no small amount of 1960 to look through, well more than half of them were 1960 (without counting I'm guessing 60-70%). Those 1960 small dates must be way more scarce. It would have been cool to have had a full roll of the 1960D. Is it worth it to keep these separate, or should I just dump them in with the rest of the coppers?

What kind of condition were the 1960's in? Most often I never find a cleaner 1960 but once in a while I'll run into a few cleaner onces in a row or something to that effect.

ive got a half dozen or so rolls of each sorted out - now i just mix them in with the rest

They are pretty darn nice ... almost all of them. This was obviously someone's dumped collection or the like.

If they're spotless they sell for a premium....easily 4 cents each ....three times what regular Cu bullion coin sells for...

I found another 1960-D small date. At least I have a roll of them now and can put them away.

Well you know the 1960's were held out of circulation, just have to guess when they were pulled from circulation and you've got your year those were initially put away, still a very cool find.
