currency debasement chart question

Hi guys,

this is likely a stupid question but if the Market Value is, say "1.52", what is that number? 1.52 cents? I've looked everywhere on the site, and really didn't want to post this question, but it's bugging the crap out of me that i don't know. I know the data's based on $100 F/V, but don't see how that relates.

Someone please throw me a bone on this one, so I can sleep tonight?

Thanks in advance,
Atticus

Here we go...just an example.

dollars to euros

1.4 dollars to 1 euro

1.4/1

So, you need a buck forty ($1.40US to = 1 euro.......or the other way around.

1 euro will get you $1.40US.
1/1.40

Why....you got goodies to get rid of?

Did this help?

hey TJCF,

when i look at the chart here:
http://currencydebasement.com/index-us-copper-penny

it says the current market value is "1.59" as of Jan 14. is that 1.59 FV or something else?

i'm still working on putting together an amount to sell. it's just been bugging me that i don't know what the number on this chart means.

OK....you're talking about selling copper bullion....pennies?

You might be looking at the average per cent of sales through a particular time using data from sales from $100 lots on ebay.

So...that means the average price was 1.59 per copper penny including shipping....for that time frame.

"Market Value" is based on the average weekly price of $100, or greater, lots of 95% copper memorial cents sold on Ebay(R). The price includes shipping charges.

The 1.59 is what a Copper penny is averaging when sold on Ebay. So 1.59 Cents each. He says the Spot value is 2.31 Cents but when selling through Ebay a person is averaging 1.59X per penny when they sell. That is just His sampling and he only includes the Auctions/Buy it Now that Sell atleast a Face Value of $100. So basically there are hundreds of auctions he Doesn't include every week. Just some average prices for people to go by. Hope this helps you alittle. I'm not great at explaining stuff when i'm tired :-)

Market Value is less than the so-called Copper Value for a number of reasons. Probably the most notable are:

1) The fact that the Copper Value cannot currently be legally extracted from US cents.
2) The fact that there would be energy/handling/processing costs associated with extracting the copper.

What the chart is saying is a copper penny is selling for $0.0159 (1.59xFV) in the open market of eBay. So $100 worth (10,000 pennies) is selling for $159.00. The "melt value" of the copper is only shown for comparison.
