How would you like to get these to sort through?

The following is a link to the story on the news tonight where students at a middle school just south of Memphis raised 1.5 million pennies to remember the children of the holocaust.

Horn Lake Middle School Students Are Raising 1.5 Million Pennies
Students Say They Want To Make Certain History Never Repeats Itself
(Horn Lake, MS/01/27/12) It's probably not your typical arrival at Horn Lake Middle School.

But an armored truck rolled in as part of a special student project to commemorate the lives of other children lost because of the Holocaust.

Jessica Martie is a student at Horn Lake Middle School.

Martie said, "I wanted to be part of it. It broke my heart to find out what happened in the Holocaust and how many kids died and stuff."

The children raised 1.5 million pennies and that's one penny for each child killed during the Holocaust in Europe.

Melissa Swartz and two other DeSoto County teachers came up with the project, "There is going to come a time when there are no survivors left and all we have left is word of mouth, documentaries and projects such as this and we can't let this part of history die away."
Along with raising pennies, the students and teachers have put together a video documenting their work.

They're also meeting Holocaust survivors such as Jake Cohen.

He relives how a church bishop in his hometown saved many lives.

Cohen said, "He warned everybody, the Jews with the underground, and that actually saved us."

But this project won't end here. The boxes of penny bricks, which weigh about six tons all together, will be emptied and turned into a statue.

Emily Endraske is student vice president.

Endraske said, "It's exciting to know you can change the world and have an influence."

David Reese is student council president.

Reese said, "It's not that long ago and relative to all of history. It's really soon. It's really relevant. It's that long ago."

It's why students want to remember other children and continue to learn a lesson that a tragedy like the Holocaust should never be allowed to happen again.

Martie said, "I mean a lot and to appreciate we are here and it's all over and hopefully it will never happen again."

Work on the project could begin in a few months.

Renewed Moms Ministry of the Memphis Area Home Education Association also contributed thousands of pennies to the Horn Lake Middle School Holocaust Memorial Project.

Might be a good way to get your bank to order you more boxes, then donate some zincs.
