American Vs Canadian pennies.

I am wondering if I should be separating Yanks from canucks when sorting for Cu, I know the basics of keeping wheats, indians, King Georges etc. Also are there any simple to recognize coins I should be looking for that would stand out to a newbie?

Canadian pennies are more pure than us cents. I keep them separate because they tend to command a premium price.

I see, I did notice both were 95% up to the early 80's. I just wish the year date on the Americans were a bit larger print, the brief pause during hand sorting to check slows the cha ching count.

I love getting Canadian pennies. They're more pure, and the older ones even weigh more than Lincoln memorial copper cents. They have such a distinct ring to them when they drop.

Canadian cents were 95.5% up to '42. In '43 the Cu was increased to 98%. Canadian pennies do usually sell for a better price than U.S.

When I was sorting and hoarding I kept them separate.

I sort my Canadian Copper into two buckets 1953 - 1979 and 1980 - 1996. The first group is 3.24 gram weight at 98%, the second group is 2.5 to 2.8 gram weight at 98%

Canadian pennies do in fact bring more per pound on ebay than Lincolns. Ebayers pay more simply because they are 98% pure as opposed to 95%. And because they appear far less often on ebay this almost always translates into a more competitive bidding environment.

I keep them seperate.

I get a lot of them up here in NY. Last night I found 16 King George VI. There were more of them in the bag than wheats.

In Detroit I tend to find between 4 and 8% of the rolls are Canadian. I keep them separated as well.
