wondering if you folks , presort' your coin by type of wrapper.

i then open 10.00 increments into cottage cheese bowls. and weight the 1,000 coins

theoretically 1,000 zincs would be 2500 grams, with pure cu being 3100

in doing a many sets of 10.00..... i have arrived at an average in tucson of 2610 grs. this is for bank rolled as the cwr is too variable.

i do end up with 'highs and lows' by sorting the wrappers though. like the 3050 gr lot i got yesterday. i only saw a few zincs and no wheats as i opened the paper rolls.

on the other hand i got a 2525 last month. there were only 7 cu, and 12 82's. ie, sorted by someone else already

I've heard of a few people doing this with boxes, just buy a box weight it, and if it's anything under 14.4 or something like that they take it back.

If I took back every box that weighed under 14.4 I probably wouldn't be sorting much. If the boxes are light.. I "just sort more!" When several of us were getting solid zinc circ boxes on a regular basis a while back the scale came in really handy to check for dud boxes. If it weighed 14.1 you didn't even have to crack the box, just move it from the incoming stack to the outgoing stack.

sometimes I will weigh my rolls and open the lightest ones first. That way if I don't get to sort all of them I get to return most of the zincs for more cash to buy more rolls.

highs and lows..... i got one 10.00 lot that had mostly 126 gram rolls, with a single 138... ended up with all of 60 cu.

then again, i got one 10.00 lot that only had 182 zincs.

The only time I do that is if they are customer wrapped coins and I see old style wrappers.

For those of us that have been hand sorting/hand searching rolls of coins for any length of time, I imagine that we have all developed some sort of system.

I know I have my little quirks when it comes to sorting. :o

I do sort by types of rolls, no I do not weigh the rolls; but if I even tried to explain my reasons behind how/why I do it, all of you would be sound asleep.

Enjoy your coin searches, everyone. :geek:
