Its a 1963 penny silver in color. I took it to 2 coin shops where the owners are very knowledgable and they said its not plated and possibly a error that was stamped on a different type of metal. I weighed it at one of the coin shops at it weighed 3 grams flat whereas a copper penny weighed 3.2 grams. They told me i should get it graded but there isnt a ngsc dealer nearby. Thoughts?

Welcome to the group. I posted your photo for you. And you might look at this thread http://www.realcent.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=11522&hilit=+silver#p113298 . Welcome to the group. You will keeping finding odd things if you keep looking. .We found a Two-Headed one and it was 2.75 grams on the first scale at the coin shop and 2.8 grams on the 2nd scale they had. Also you use Sodium hydroxide to make a silver coin the lye might be were your missing grams went. You could try to make you own silver coin with a 1963 and see.

I found a 1991 "gold" cent today, my first one.

When I saw it pop out of the roll I though I had a foreign coin at first.
