Fell for something like that my first summer job working as a welder's helper. Is your rollcracker anything like a "pipe stretcher"?

Nope.. it is a real machine. I ask Santa for one every year but apparently I have not been good enough.

It is made by a division of N.F. String & Son in PA. It will liberate 100 rolls per minute.

I use pliers to pull both ends off. Never lose any in the paper.

I crack open on the side of a 5 gallon bucket or a glass hot pepper jug. If flying I can do about 10-12 rolls a min

When I was roll peeling I used a utility knife to slice it open then dump em into the hopper. I could usually go a little faster than the Ryedale.

Buy them loose in bags.

Ryedale posted a video of him using a knife.

5x5 is not much space to work with. Where are you going to store those 50 CTU's if someone ships them to you?

Any machinery is going to have a footprint that is going to make it a little tight for you. I could find room for one of those RollCrackers if I could just get Santa to bring me one.

Since you will be be liberating the pennies the old fashioned way I have a couple of options. You can use the whacking method or the peeling method. I have a 1/4" steel workbench next to the desk in my penny processing center. I just crack the rolls like eggs on the side of it. I can open rolls that way fast enough to feed 2 Ryedales simultaneously, but that is going at a pretty good clip.

When I want to do it a little slower I just take a few of my 2.5 gallon buckets into the family room and shell 2 or 3 boxes into each one using the peeling method (fingernail or small knife) if they are machine wrapped rolls or open and dump if CWR while watching TV. Then I just take the buckets out to the penny processing center and run them through the Ryedales.

For Brinks wraps you just bend the rolls and slide the coins out. There was a thread long ago about being able to shoot the coins out of the plastic wraps with a compressor, but I have never tried that.

They ARE great in bags those rolls aren't fun. However if I am stuck with rolls...its the peel method using a drop point pocket knife.

Is the peel method using a "drop point pocket knife" like a "pipe stretcher?" touche!

I usually will take a serrated steak knife and score the ten rolls while they are still in the box... then the roll will pretty much crack open with a little bang on the side of the table...

Probably shouldn't share my patent-pending design ;), but here it is...
I took a 2 ft piece of 3/4'' PVC. Cut a slit about 5/6ths down the length of the pipe. Added a small dowel inside a cap on the end. Put a cap on the end the slit is exposed. Glued it of course. It fits 5 rolls, run the utility knife down the slit. Dump rolls in a five gallon bucket, hard enough to open most of them up. Just have to pick out the paper. :D
Once I am in a rhythm of loading 5 rolls, slicing, dumping them, and loading another 5 rolls, I can fly through a box. 50 rolls can be done with 10 cuts.

Burn off the wrappers......If your temps are right the flames will sort for you. .............
Joking: Melting pennies is against the law and playing with fire will make you pee the bed.

Use the knife method. ;)

If you soak, how do you dry them if you are going to run through a ryedale? So far it seems it's a three way tie between the pliers. steak knife and the PCV tube. Will try all three as soon as my next load comes in, thanks all, but it's not over yet - all ideas are inventive and darn well thought out, not only do we have sorters but brilliant mind as well !!! This goes to a vote 3/1/12
