Odd Bag Pick-up Numbers this Week???

It took a LONG time to find a bank that will sell me their coins from their coin machine. I'm lucky for 1 bag a week. This is the average for over two years. My new source bank, which I found 2 months ago, is getting me 2 bags a week. Never any more.

So, I've been getting 3 bags a week between the 2 sources. This week something happened. My new bank had 8 bags and the old one had 3 bags.

11 bags to work on!

I wonder what caused the big spike in piggy banks being dumped???

Schools... The have penny fund raisers (penny wars)... They are collecting in my area now. I love hitting those banks after they dump.

BTW: remind the bank how much money in transport costs you just saved them...

I asked them where all the pennies were coming from......I was told EVERYONE coming in had change.....I asked about any fundraisers....nothing yet.

Now I'm thinking it's somebody's dumps. The coppers are low so far.

We'll see later if they get better. This is one of those times I miss the Ryedale!

Funny, I had a bit of a surge in bags this week as well. One CU that typically has 1-2 per week suddenly had 5. My first thought was another hoarder dumping but so far I'm actually way above my average of 22% copper plus over $5 in dimes. No complaints here. :D

My bag source had 10 bags this week. They usually only 2-3 maybe 4.

The wife wouldn't let me get all of them. I settled for 6. The bank set them aside for me when Loomis came and picke dup the rest.

There may be other specific reasons, but this is a charity drive season - my coin counter bank was the official dump site for one a couple weeks ago. They had 20-something bags one week, high teens the next.

Yeah, my first thought would have been the penny wars as well. My oldest child started school this year and when we got the penny war paper in her back pack a couple weeks ago, my wife immediately handed it to me and said "This one is for you penny man", so I threw some rolls of zincs in her backpack.

If you lived in Michigan I might have said you might be running into my dumping :) I got a Ryedale from Andy this week. I used to buy the bags from the only coin counter I know of in town, but now due to my increased penny consumption from hand sorting to Ryedale I've been dumping at the coin counter instead.

I sorted the six bags that I got. They were the most aweful coins I have ever seen. There must have been 20-30 bent coins in the one bag alone. I coudn't fill the hopper because the bent ones kept jamming the wheel.

I must have $5 in pennies that were so fat with corrosion that they jammed the machine also. I wish I had got there before Loomis. I would have looke dthem over.

Would it be in bad taste to take a scale into the vault and weigh the bags before I choose which one I want to take home?

The only thing odd so far in finds is a 2004S proof and a Kennedy counterstamp. 1-foreign panamanian cent and 10 dimes.

Still alot to go.

Fountain Pennies a/or pennies that have been sitting in the ground/water for a long time.

Both banks called yesterday...one bank has the usual 1 bag while the other has 2. Looks like things are back to normal....only if I can get through the rest of these 11 bags. I'm working on bag #6. So a little past halfway...! :D

Still low on wheats...about 150 so far. The canadian coppers are pushing towards 100!

There were a fair number of "dug" pennies, so I suspect that these might have been dug as well.
