1958 D question

This is probably not a big deal, but I couldn't find anywhere to look to find the answer so there's really no better place then here...

While sorting today, I pulled out two wheat pennies, both 1958 D's, but on one of them the S is think and a bit away from the date, and on the other the D and the date are bold and the D is almost touching the bottom of the date...

Is this a known variation... Should I provide pictures to help identify...

thanks,

Never mind,

After looking at a selection of my own 1958 D's I see that it looks like 2 different dies where commonly used... One with the D centered and spaced between the 9 and 5 and the other tucked in closer to the 9 and up into the 9 and 5 junction..

Thanks

Those older cents had the mintmark hand punched....so the mintmark could be anywhere. That's how you get repunched mintmarks.
