2011d pennies

Yesterday I went to my pick up bank and got four boxes of pennies. When I got home I found that they were all 2011d pennies. Since I can think of no reason to keep all these pennies they are going back today.

I don't feel lucky, so I'm going to try other banks to get my pennies today. I saw this thread posted earlier, thought it was funny. Now I don't think that this is a humorous.

Howdy! I got one of those pesky 2011D $25 penny boxes the other day too. I popped it on the scale it it weighed a tad over 14 pounds. I think I read a post a while back that gave the weight of a box off all zinc pennies verses the weight of an all copper penny box. They are nice and clean and brand new tho. I almost don't want to get rid of them. Maybe next time I should tell the teller I'm allergic to zinc and can only handle the older copper pennies. I guess I just wanted to see what I would get if I just asked for $25 in pennies. Now I know. I get a box of 2011D's. I hope you didn't get that box from the bank I took mine back to :D

I don't know where the market is right now on this year and mint mark, but a lot of times, these solid date boxes sell for a premium on eBay. Check it out before you bring them back. I had a box of 2008's that I got a year ago and they sold on eBay and I made a few bucks on it even after shipping and fees

Holy Cow! I just did a quick search of completed listings on Ebay and last week 2 boxes of all 2011 pennies sold. 1 was a P mint mark and 1 was a D mint mark. $49.50 and $55.00. That's 2X's face on some zinc pennies? Wow! Single rolls have just sold for $2.95 plus shipping. The guy sold 6 of them. Almost 3X's face! I've been sorted these all wrong. I should be dumping the copper and keeping the zincs.

Ooops. Did the math wrong on the single rolls. That's 6X's face.

Ha, sweet. There you go. Selling a roll at a time is too tedious for me. eBay will end up getting a lot in fees too. But yeah, looks like you should do pretty well on those. Congrats on the "solid zinc" find  If you want some more zincs with all the pesky coppers pulled out, let me know.

It is an empty, disappointing feeling to see a shiny box these days. It wasn't too long ago in 2009 that fresh boxes of the various Lincoln designs were selling like hotcakes, and were a treat to get from the banks.

How would you know if all the rolls in the box are the same year and mint mark? I'm guessing it must say so somewhere on the box?

I love the "allergic to zinc" excuse! solid boxes of new dates sell.

My two boxes of 2011d came sealed from Brinks so I don't think that I was cursed with any scrap from any of the posters to this thread. The reason that I know that they were 2011d was that I checked about half of the rolls (without opening them) and made the determination that way. So to do the fast and expedious way, I just brought them to my dump bank and traded for two new boxes.

The new boxes are all mixed dates (I checked). I'm just not set up to sell on ebay and am not sure that want to put up with both their fees, shipping the coin, and possible problems with their purchasers. I I had a better product to sell their I just might put up with the their rot. So I'm back on track to sorting out the copper from the zinc.
